–The City of Paso Robles will host a free information session on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Centennial Pool (600 Nickerson Drive) for those ages 15 and older to learn more about working as a lifeguard or in the pool office this summer at one of the city’s two aquatics complexes.

During the open house, City Pool Manager Nelson Zuniga will take attendees on a tour of the Centennial Park aquatics facility and offer a presentation featuring information about the city’s hiring process for summer aquatics staff, the physical requirements for becoming a lifeguard and a day in the life of a lifeguard. There will be a question and answer session with Zuniga following the presentation.

The cost of the class is $64 and is designed for experienced swimmers who want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Advanced skills will be taught and information about lifesaving techniques will be presented. Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. Those interested in registering for the class should visit and search “lifeguard.”

Prerequisites for the Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Training class include the ability to swim 300 yards of the pool using front crawl and breaststroke, retrieval of a 10-pound brick from seven feet of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. Participants must be 15 years old by March 24, 2019 to be eligible for this training. Participants should bring a towel, goggles, swimsuit, dry clothes, sack lunch and a water bottle.
