Pacific Wildlife Care to release Gray Fox in Santa Margarita

–Pacific Wildlife Care and Margarita Adventures zipline canopy tours will release a rehabilitated wild gray fox into the environment at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Santa Margarita Ranch near the town of Santa Margarita.

Media wishing to attend the release or who would like more information may contact Karl Wittstrom at (805) 459-6603. The wildlife team will be meeting at Santa Margarita Park at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and then heading onto the ranch for the release.

Two weeks ago, Pacific Wildlife Care (PWC), based in Morro Bay, received a call from a resident in south Atascadero reporting a young gray fox that was limping and injured. PWC’s mission is to support San Luis Obispo County wildlife through rehabilitation and educational outreach.

PWC took custody of the fox and determined that the limp was due to a healing fracture on its right rear leg. More troubling was the fact that the fox had an abscess and infection. PWC nursed the fox back to health with veterinarian care, nourishment and antibiotics. The fox now has a clean bill of health and is ready to return home to the wilds, by way of Margarita Adventures.

“Pacific Wildlife Care reached out to us because they are familiar with our commitment to wildlife education, and because they feel that Santa Margarita Ranch will be a fitting and safe environment for this fox,” said Karl Wittstrom, co-proprietor Margarita Adventures.
