– The City of Paso Robles announced Thursday that David Malewitz has been appointed assistant city manager following a nationwide recruitment process.
Malewitz has more than a decade of experience in local government, most recently serving as city manager for Eloy, Ariz. In that role, he led strategic planning and delivery of services to a community of 19,000 residents across 115 square miles. He managed a $109 million municipal budget, directed a workforce of 132 employees across eight departments, and oversaw capital projects including construction of the city’s first hospital, a $250 million manufacturing facility, and major water and wastewater infrastructure improvements. He also played a central role in airport operations and development tied to Eloy’s municipal airport.
“We are very pleased to welcome David to Paso Robles,” City Manager Chris Huot said. “His demonstrated leadership, infrastructure expertise, and experience across a broad spectrum of municipal operations make him a tremendous addition to our team. He brings a collaborative approach that will help drive innovation and strengthen services for our residents.”
Malewitz said he looks forward to working in Paso Robles.
“Paso Robles is a vibrant and growing community with a strong commitment to public service and quality of life,” Malewitz said. “I’m honored to join the team and look forward to working with staff, elected officials, and community partners to help move the city forward.”
In Paso Robles, Malewitz will join the executive leadership team and will be responsible for supporting sustainable community growth, strengthening partnerships with government agencies, and coordinating city operations. His work will include advancing economic development efforts such as the city’s pursuit of a spaceport license for the municipal airport. He will oversee divisions within the City Manager’s Office, lead initiatives on employee development and organizational leadership, and focus on improving service delivery and customer experience.
Malewitz is a member of the International City/County Management Association. He holds a Master of Public Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Local Government Management from Virginia Tech, and a bachelor’s degree in applied speech communication from Ferris State University. In 2024, he completed the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Malewitz is relocating to Paso Robles in preparation for his new role. His official start date will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
