Classes run Saturdays from Jan. 17 through Feb. 21

    – The Paso Robles Art Association will present a six-week drawing series taught by professional artist and instructor WB Eckert beginning Saturday, Jan. 17.

Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and will focus on the relationship between observation and drawing practice. Participants will draw, evaluate work, and discuss common challenges while exploring practical approaches to improve drawing skills. The series is open to artists of all skill levels.

“This class is about learning to really see,” Eckert said, “and understanding how observation directly informs drawing.”

The class schedule includes six sessions. The first class on Saturday, Jan. 17, will focus on drawing the line, with instruction emphasizing precision and the importance of line relationships. The second class on Saturday, Jan. 24, will address visual perception and drawing what is seen by simplifying subjects using basic shapes. The third class on Saturday, Jan. 31, will focus on drawing shapes in space to convey distance and using visual conventions to create believable space. The fourth class on Saturday, Feb. 7, will introduce basic three-dimensional forms and perspective. The fifth class on Saturday, Feb. 14, will examine light and shadow, using shading to show the effects of light on objects and suggest depth and distance. The final class on Saturday, Feb. 21, will combine all elements to create drawings from life or imagination.

Required supplies include three or four 4B or 6B pencils, a kneaded eraser, an 11-by-14-inch drawing pad or larger, and a stiff drawing board larger than the pad.

Eckert is a professional artist, designer, photographer, and art instructor with experience in fine art painting, printmaking, photography, graphic arts, and three-dimensional design. He currently works full-time as a painter, primarily using acrylics.

Classes are open to the public. Members of the Paso Robles Art Association receive discounted class fees and additional benefits, including opportunities to exhibit and sell artwork, participation in a painters guild, year-round art classes, and social receptions for exhibit openings. The organization invites the community to visit its two galleries located inside Studios on the Park.

Classes will be held at the Paso Robles Art Association inside Studios on the Park, located at 1033 Pine St. in Paso Robles. More information is available at WBEckertStudio.com. Questions may be directed to wbeckertstudio@gmail.com.
