Paso Robles expands medical services with new paramedic squad

New unit funded by Measure J-20 will improve response times

    – The City of Paso Robles announced the launch of its new Paramedic Squad on Nov. 9, expanding emergency medical services within the community.

The implementation of the unit was made possible through funding from Measure J-20, along with the support of the Paso Robles City Council and community partnerships.

City officials said the Paramedic Squad is designed to respond rapidly to medical emergencies with highly trained paramedics and Advanced Life Support capabilities. The new model ensures that paramedic-level care arrives quickly while fire engines and specialized equipment remain available for fires, rescues, and other complex incidents.

Medical emergencies account for most 9-1-1 calls in Paso Robles. Officials said aligning resources with real-time service needs will improve unit availability, enhance efficiency, and strengthen readiness during multiple simultaneous incidents. The approach is also expected to reduce wear and operational costs for heavy fire equipment.

The city described the initiative as part of a broader, data-driven strategy to enhance emergency medical services and maintain a modern, responsive public safety system. “This is not a reactive measure; it is a forward-looking, patient-centered investment in the health, safety, and resilience of Paso Robles, both today and for the future,” wrote the city in a press release.
