Paso Robles’ fire protection rating improves

paso robles fire and emergency services

Upgrade reflects staffing, facilities, and infrastructure investments

    – The City of Paso Robles has received official notification that its Insurance Services Office fire protection rating has been upgraded from Class 3 to Class 2, city officials announced.

The rating improvement reflects investments aimed at strengthening fire protection and public safety across the city. The Insurance Services Office evaluates fire departments nationwide through its Public Protection Classification program.

“Out of more than 37,000 fire departments nationwide, only 2,109 have achieved a Class 2 ISO rating,” Fire Chief Jonathan Stornetta said. “This milestone highlights the strength of Paso Robles’ fire protection system and the vital role of a community that consistently supports investments in public safety and emergency preparedness.”

The Insurance Services Office Public Protection Classification program is used by most insurers as part of the underwriting process to help determine coverage options, availability, and pricing for personal and commercial property insurance. City officials said an improved rating can positively affect insurance availability and premiums for residents and businesses.

The upgraded classification resulted from funding provided through Measure J-20, which supported increased fire department staffing, construction of Fire Station 3, development of a Regional Fire Training Center, and upgrades to emergency dispatch operations.

The city’s Water Division also contributed by maintaining consistent fire flows through the inspection, testing, and maintenance of more than 3,000 fire hydrants throughout the city. City officials said coordination among departments played a key role in achieving the improved rating.

The City of Paso Robles thanked the Paso Robles City Council, city leadership, and community members for their support of public safety investments. The city also recognized the contributions of the Public Works Department, Utilities Department, Community Development Department, Police Department, and Administrative Services Department.

City officials also acknowledged Congressman Panetta for approving a $500,000 federal grant to assist with construction of the Regional Fire Training Center, which officials described as an asset for firefighter readiness and regional training.
