Paso Robles fire season predicted to be intense
—Central Coast residents should prepare for an intense 2018 fire season, similar to the previous three years. There have been around 970 fires reported since Jan. 1, 2018 – at this time last year, reported fires were around 560. This increase is mainly due to the prolonged drought and large amounts of dead underbrush from last year’s fires, according to reports.
The fire season officially began on May 1, which also marked the end of backyard burning. Permits will be reissued at the end of fire season. There are exceptions to permit approval, which can be found at calfireslo.org.
The San Luis Obispo County Fire Department urges residents to help prevent wildfire destruction by creating a line of defense at least 100 feet around their property. Noted areas that are more susceptible to wildfires this year include the Rock Front area in Los Padres National Forest, according to reports.
