Paso Robles High School choir joins Canzona for special concert
Collaboration aims to highlight the power of multi-generational music
– Canzona Women’s Ensemble will present Songs of the Americas on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. in San Luis Obispo. The concert, led by Artistic Director Cricket Handler, will showcase the musical traditions from across the Americas, highlighting themes of freedom and cultural heritage.
The performance will feature jazz vocalist Inga Swearingen, known for her blend of jazz and folk influences. Canzona will also be joined by the Paso Robles High School Forte Choir, directed by Canzona singer Gaylene Ewing, in select pieces. The collaboration aims to highlight the power of multi-generational music.
The program will include “Canto ‘E Liberta,” which explores freedom and resilience, and “La Llorona,” a Mexican folk song that depicts a story of love and loss. The repertoire will feature music from North and South America, incorporating classical, folk, and contemporary influences.

About Canzona Women’s Ensemble
Canzona, San Luis Obispo County’s all-women choral group, presents two concerts each season, one in the fall and one in the spring. The ensemble collaborates with various Central Coast artists, including poets, composers, dancers, and musicians. Founded in the summer of 2009 by Artistic Directors Cricket Handler and Jill Anderson, Canzona is now in its 16th season.
