District cites leadership experience and campus relationships

Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has announced the appointment of Michael Susank as principal of Paso Robles High School following his service in the interim role.

Since stepping into interim leadership, Susank has provided guidance, built relationships with students and staff, and supported academic and extracurricular programs at Paso Robles High School, according to the district. District officials said his appointment reflects confidence in his leadership and commitment to the school community.

“Mr. Susank has demonstrated thoughtful leadership throughout his time as interim principal, earning the trust and respect of students, staff, and families alike,” said Jennifer Loftus, superintendent of Paso Robles Joint Unified School District. “His commitment to academic excellence and positive campus culture makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead Paso Robles High School forward. We are confident that under his leadership, Bearcats will continue to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.”

During his time as interim principal, Susank focused on maintaining a campus environment that is both physically and emotionally safe for all, ensuring classroom practices and policies empower students to grow, and building a campus culture that supports staff, according to the district.

“I am truly honored to serve Paso Robles High School as principal and to continue working alongside our dedicated staff, supportive families, and outstanding students,” said Susank. “PRHS is a special place with a strong tradition of excellence and Bearcat pride. I look forward to building on the positive momentum we’ve created together and ensuring every student feels supported, challenged, and prepared for success beyond high school.”

Prior to his appointment as assistant principal and athletic director at Paso Robles High School in June, Susank served as principal at Mission College Preparatory in San Luis Obispo. He previously held the position of assistant principal for academic affairs at Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield, California. He also worked as a classroom teacher at Foothill High School in Bakersfield and at Garces Memorial High School, where he coached football and track. In college, Susank was an NCAA national champion and three-time All-American in the hammer throw for Claremont McKenna College.

With his appointment as principal, Susank will transition out of his role as athletic director. Paso Robles Joint Unified School District plans to open the Paso Robles High School athletic director position for applications in the coming weeks.

Paso Robles Joint Unified School District serves more than 6,400 students across northern San Luis Obispo County. The district states it is guided by core values of integrity, accountability, collaboration, innovation, compassion, and belonging, and aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for students.
