Paso Robles hosts 28th Vine Street Showcase

Weather is clear for annual event

Paso Robles Downtown Main Street Association hosted yet another successful holiday event — the 28th annual Vine Street Showcase Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Though it would have continued even with moisture falling from the sky, the evening was clear and dry and slightly chilly, though not as cold as last year.

Attorney at Law Tom Waylett enjoyed Vine Street Showcase from his practice’s front porch at 1229 Vine St., glass of wine in hand.

“I think it’s a great event,” Waylett said. “It’s one of the things I love about working and living in Paso Robles — that and Pioneer Day.”

In addition to entertainment and refreshment provided by many of the residents and businesses along Vine Street, Main Street assigned participants a home to be in front of to serve hot chocolate, hot apple cider and hot coffee, along with popcorn and cookies and more. Youngsters got the opportunity to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with the Snow King and Queen, Frosty the Snowman and numerous other characters.

Entertainment greeted Vine Street visitors and old friends crossed each others paths. Many homeowners and business owners opened their doors to customers and clients and friends and family, as people walked from one end of Vine Street to the other amid the packed streets.

Ebenezer Scrooge yelled at the large and ever-growing crowd to go away and stop looking at him. The crowd yelled friendly comments to him, including “Merry Christmas” and “I love you, Scrooge,” only to get snide and negative replies.

Santa will make one more appearance — besides being at the Holiday House in Downtown City Park — before Christmas at Teddy Bear Tea on Saturday, Dec. 20.
