Paso Robles School District announces plans for student meals during closure

The Paso Robles School District sent a message to local parents Sunday night about school closures and continuing meal service:

On Friday, March 13th, Paso Robles Joint Unified School District (PRJUSD) closed its schools through at least April 10, 2020. During this time, we will be evaluating our next steps and coordinating with all of our county school districts, County Public Health, Office of Emergency Services, California Department of Education and the Governor’s Office. It is our hope that this closure will minimize the spread and the health risks associated with COVID-19 among students, staff, their families, and the broader community.

There will be staff on each of our campuses on Monday morning if families need to pick up any student medication or have any questions that can be answered. Please call ahead so we can prepare any essential items that need to be ready for curbside pickup. There will be a site administrator at the district and at each school site between the hours of 8:00 am – 3:00 pm to answer any additional questions. These hours will likely be reduced or staggered in the following days.

Beginning on Tuesday, the Food Services Department will provide an opportunity for families to drive through and pick up meals for the children in their family, at no cost, at a number of school sites. Children must be present in order for meals to be provided. For any homeless and foster students, or if transportation is an issue for you and you would like access to free meals, please reach out directly to Joseph Williams at jmwilliams@pasoschools.org to arrange for meal dropoff.

In an effort to implement social distancing and to limit the spread of COVID-19, this program will be solely for the pick-up of meals. No meals will be consumed on-site. We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing at the school site once meals have been distributed. We look forward to providing your children with a healthy lunch and breakfast at one of our participating locations.

The following schools will provide a lunch for the day of pick up and a breakfast for the following day. Meals will be available for pick up between 11 am and 1 pm, Monday through Friday, beginning on Tuesday March 17. Meals will be distributed in the parking lot or bus lane at each participating school.

Pick up locations are listed below:

  • Georgia Brown Elementary
  • George Flamson Middle
  • Paso Robles High School
  • Winifred Pifer Elementary

We are determined to provide ongoing education for our students through voluntary enrichment opportunities during the week of March 16th, 2020 (please visit www.pasoschools.org for more information). We will continue to communicate our ongoing plan to provide a structure for voluntary at-home learning so families have easy-to-implement activities during the extended break.

I want to thank our entire staff for their extra effort and professionalism during this difficult time. Our commitment is to maintain regular and ongoing communication as we learn new information and make the necessary adjustments. I would also like to acknowledge and thank our families for your patience and support as we move through these uncharted waters. This is a fluid situation as you all recognize I’m sure.

Dr. Curt Dubost
Paso Robles School District Superintendent
