Paso Robles School District exploring options for graduation, 8th grade promotion

Graduation and 8th-grade promotion update from the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District:

Over the next few days, senior and 8th-grade parents and the class of 2020 students will be contacted by their principals in regards to a virtual meeting to give input on the draft PRJUSD plan for graduation and promotion. Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is committed to the celebration of our students who are promoting into high school and most importantly graduating from our District.

We are proposing the following schedule for commencement activities during these trying, uncertain times. All ceremonies will only be conducted when local, state and federal restrictions are removed and we can ensure a safe commencement activity.

Proposed draft: We are setting “backup” dates now so that you can “save the date” for planning and family travel purposes. Also, to alleviate concerns that we will not have a graduation ceremony if it isn’t in June.

Additionally, the following changes have been made to assist in the altering of our graduation and promotion plans.

  • All students participating in the following activities will be given a maximum of 8 tickets to ensure capacity and cleaning measures. (Unless otherwise directed by health and state authorities).
  • All District requirements remain consistent with graduation and promotion of student requirements.
  • Ceremonies will be live-streamed as well.

Plan 1: If we return to school prior to May 11, 2020, and social distancing and group gathering limitations are removed, Ceremonies will be as follows:

Thursday, June 4, 2020, Liberty High School and Independence High School as scheduled

Friday, June 5, 2020, Paso Robles High School as scheduled

Thursday, June 4, 2020, Middle School Promotion will be conducted at both middle schools as previously planned. Lewis Middle School at 10:30 a.m. and Flamson Middle 8:30 a.m.

Plan 2: If our county returns to normal functioning; social distancing and group gathering limitations are removed between May 11-June 12, 2020: Ceremonies will be as follows:

Thursday, July 9, 2020, Liberty High School and Independence High School at 7 p.m.

Friday, July 10, 2020, Lewis Middle School at 10:30 am and Flamson Middle 8:30 am. at their respective sites.

Saturday, July 11, 2020, Paso Robles High School at 7 p.m.

Plan 3: If our county returns to normal functioning and social distancing and group gathering limitations are removed between June 13- July 10, 2020: Ceremonies will be as follows:

Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, Liberty High School and Independence High School at 7 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, Lewis Middle School at 10:30 a.m. and Flamson Middle 8:30 a.m. at their respective sites.

Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, Paso Robles High School at 7 p.m.

Please email your site principal or info@pasoschools.org if you have questions, comments or concerns.

Thank you in advance for your support. We are looking to finalize this plan by next week, after seeking input from students, parents, and staff.
