Paso Robles school district faces $4.9 million budget deficit
Declining enrollment impacts budget planning
– The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is grappling with a $4.9 million budget deficit, according to a recent report by KSBY.
Superintendent Jennifer Loftus attributed the shortfall to the district’s declining enrollment. She noted that while enrollment numbers dropped, staffing levels remained steady.
Additional funding received during the COVID-19 pandemic helped the district temporarily manage financial challenges, Loftus said.
The district is seeking feedback from parents, teachers, and students in grades seven through twelve to identify possible solutions for balancing the budget. While survey responses have been collected, Loftus said recommendations to the board of trustees are expected to take a few weeks.
Loftus added that any staffing reductions will not take effect until the 2025-2026 school year.
