—The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has been named in a lawsuit from a student involved in a car crash on May 31, 2017. The lawsuit was recently filed by the 17 year old female Liberty High School student who was hit by a GMC Yukon, driven by a 16 year old male Paso Robles High School student who had no drivers license.

The driver was speeding out of the parking lot and hit both the girl, who was on the sidewalk with a friend, and a control box for the signal light after losing control of the vehicle. The boy had a previous history of reckless driving, according to reports. The girl had critical injuries, including internal bleeding and broken ribs, and was later released that week. The broken signal light box was fixed later that day. It is not known if the boy is named in the lawsuit due to him being a minor.
