Paso Robles schools adopt new cell phone policy

Governor urges schools to restrict cell phones in classrooms

Paso Robles Joint Unified School District will implement a new district-wide cell phone policy beginning in August, in alignment with the Phone-Free School Act.

The policy applies to all PRJUSD school sites and will go into effect on Aug. 14. Additional information will be provided by individual school sites prior to the start of the school year.

Under the policy, students in grades TK through 8 will not be permitted to use phones on campus during the school day. Students in grades 7 and 8 will be required to store their phones in a Yondr bag throughout the school day.

Students in grades 9 through 12 may use phones before and after school and during the lunch period.

The policy was adopted under PRJUSD Board Policy 5131.8, Mobile Communication Devices, and is in accordance with Education Code 48901.5.

For more information, families can contact their child’s school site or visit the district website.

As a retired teacher with PRJUSD I applaud this new policy! Unfortunately it might be too little too late!
