Paso Robles wins ITE 2024 unusual roundabouts award

    – The City of Paso Robles has received the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) 2024 Unusual Roundabouts Award for its Golden Hill and Union Road roundabout. The award, part of ITE’s annual Roundabouts Week celebration, recognizes roundabouts that feature unique design elements or address complex transportation issues.

The Golden Hill and Union Road roundabout was recognized for its innovative design aimed at managing high-traffic volumes while maintaining pedestrian safety in a semi-rural area. The roundabout features multi-lane entry points, enhanced landscaping, and bike-friendly pathways. City officials say the improvements have significantly reduced congestion and increased safety for both motorists and non-motorists.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Capital Projects Engineer Ditas Esperanza, who managed the project. “The Golden Hill and Union Road roundabout has proven to be an effective solution to the traffic concerns in this part of the city, and we are thrilled to be recognized by ITE for our innovative approach.”

ITE, a global transportation professionals organization, awards the Unusual Roundabouts Award annually to highlight creative roundabout designs with lasting community benefits. The recognition acknowledges Paso Robles’ commitment to improving traffic flow and safety throughout the city.

Paso Robles was also featured in ITE’s Roundabout Committee webinar “The State of Roundabouts in the U.S.” on Sept. 17, where experts discussed trends and innovations in roundabout design.
