The California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships will take place next week at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield. Qualifying for the state tournament places each athlete among the top competitors in their weight class statewide.
As a team, Paso Robles placed seventh at the California Interscholastic Federation Central Section Division I Championships and finished 13th overall in the Central Section team standings.
“This year’s Bearcats team has consistently risen to the occasion,” said the coaching staff. “We placed highly in every tournament, took 7th at Division I, and finished 13th in the Central Section. Qualifying three boys for state is a testament to their grit, and I couldn’t be prouder. The girls’ program is continuing to grow, and next year we’re aiming to send even more girls to state.”
On the girls side, Persauz Montoya placed fifth at the California Interscholastic Federation Division I Championships, and Michelle Bautista placed eighth, qualifying both athletes for the Masters Tournament. Both competed at Masters but did not advance to the state championships.
Paso Robles completed the Central Section season with three state qualifiers, representation across multiple weight classes, an undefeated league record, and continued growth in both the boys and girls programs, according to the team.
