    Paso Robles wrestlers earn medals at Lemoore and Aptos events

    Girls’ wrestling team will travel to the Morro Bay tournament this weekend

    – The Paso Robles High School boys wrestling teams were active over the holiday break, competing in multiple tournaments and achieving notable team and individual results.

    Over the first weekend of the break, both the junior varsity and varsity teams traveled to Lemoore.

    The junior varsity team competed at Lemoore High School and placed sixth out of 19 teams. Individual results included:

    • Silas Cole, second at 113 pounds
    • Henry Ibanez, fourth at 120 pounds
    • Blake Rede, fourth at 132 pounds
    • Masen Jewett, third at 144 pounds
    • Chris Melgar, sixth at 165 pounds
    • Masen Pollak, second at 165 pounds

    The varsity team competed in Lemoore and placed second out of 14 teams. Individual results were as follows:

    • Octavio Martinez, second at 113 pounds
    • Gabriel Morones, third at 120 pounds
    • Logan Camack, first at 126 pounds
    • Konor Martinez, sixth at 138 pounds
    • Kassim Williams, third at 144 pounds
    • Pedro Coronado, third at 150 pounds
    • Josh Willis, first at 157 pounds
    • Caleb Konoski, second at 190 pounds
    • Ashton Wirkus, fourth at 215 pounds

    Last weekend, the varsity team traveled to the Pat Lovell Holiday Classic in Aptos, where they competed against 60 teams, including state-ranked programs such as Clovis, Buchanan, Pitman, and Ponderosa. The Bearcats finished eighth as a team, with six wrestlers earning medals:

    • Logan Camack, sixth at 126 pounds
    • Drake Mello, third at 132 pounds
    • Pedro Coronado, eighth at 150 pounds
    • Josh Willis, eighth at 157 pounds
    • Brandon England, second at 157 pounds
    • Caleb Konoski, eighth at 190 pounds

     

    Brandon England advanced to the finals, pinning his semifinal opponent from Clovis East. In the championship match, England faced Kaden Martinez, ranked 11th in the state, and finished second.

    Paso Robles is working to establish its wrestlers in the state rankings, which recognize the top 50 competitors statewide. Junior Logan Camack at 126 pounds is an honorable mention, and junior Drake Mello, ranked 39th at 132 pounds, recently placed eighth at the Zinkin Classic, one of the most competitive tournaments on the West Coast. Junior Alan Melgar is also an honorable mention.

    Next week, Paso Robles hosts Atascadero in a league match. Wrestling begins at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity team, followed by the girls’ team. Varsity matches are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Admission is free for children.

    The girls’ wrestling team will travel to the Morro Bay tournament this weekend.
