Passenger injured in DUI crash, driver arrested

–On Sunday, Nov. 19 at 5:40 p.m., 45-year-old Atascadero resident Andrew David DeVilers was driving his 2007 GMC Sierra pickup eastbound on Pozo Road almost 6 miles east of Santa Margarita Lake Road. His right front passenger was 53-year-old Shell Beach resident Jacqueline Plumey. Both were wearing seatbelts.

As DeVillers attempted to negotiate a left curve in the road, the right side tires left the pavement and began to slide on the soft dirt shoulder. The shoulder had a negative grade, so DeVillers was not able to steer back onto the road. The right front of the GMC impacted an oak tree causing major intrusion on the passenger side. Plumey was pinned in the pickup. Fire crews worked for nearly 2 hours to free Plumey from the wreckage. Pozo Road was closed for approximately 2 hours while fire crews extricated Plumey.

California Highway Patrol Helicopter 70 was requested for a life flight for Plumey due to her extensive injuries which were life threatening. Plumey was flown to Sierra Vista Hospital. Plumey suffered massive trauma to her right leg as is still currently being evaluated at Sierra Vista.

DeVillers was evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol at the collision scene and was subsequently arrested for Felony DUI. He submitted to a breath test and was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for Felony DUI causing injury to another.
