Patricia Orcutt dies at 92
–Patricia Anderson Orcutt died peacefully in Ennis Montana on Oct. 8, 2017 five days before her 93rd birthday.
Patricia Orcutt was welcomed into the world on Oct. 13, 1924 by her parents, Harriett and Jesse Anderson. She was born in Sacramento, Ca as there was no hospital in Rio Vista where her family farmed. She and her sister Audrey (Roe) and brother Jesse Jr. grew up in Hanford Ca. While in school she won a gold medal in the California State Debating competition. She was also on the debating team at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She liked to tell stories of her train rides back to Stephens on the Wabash Cannonball.
After graduating from Stephens Patricia attended UCLA for only one quarter. This was because she met a handsome Navy Pilot named Don Orcutt who was stationed in Florida. Even though there was gas rationing at the time, her parents allowed Patricia and her sister Audrey to drive from California to Florida. This turned out to be a good decision as Patricia and Don were happily married for 67 years.
After moving from Florida, they made their home in Don’s home town of Paso Robles, California.
While Don was busy in the grocery business Patricia was busy at home raising their three children, Judy Herrick (Vaughan) of Ennis, Montana, Jeff Orcutt (Jaynee) of Atascadero, CA and Jill Ray (Gerry) of Salinas, CA.
Golf was a great passion of Patricia’s and we always knew where to find her. We were very proud when she was the Woman’s Club Champion at the Paso Robles Country Club. She was also very involved in everything her children did whether it was teaching us to sew, attending the fair with our 4-H steers or being a counselor at Camp Talaki with her girls or Den Mother for Cub Scouts. In the late 1950s her picture appeared on the front page of the newspaper because she shot one of the biggest bucks that year during deer season.
Patricia and Don loved to travel and saw most of the world.
Aside from her children she is survived by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
