Peace Officer Memorial Service to be held on May 14
Honors officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty
Atascadero Veterans’ Memorial.
On Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m. the San Luis Obispo County Criminal Justice Administrators’ Association will host a memorial service to commemorate and honor those officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
This year’s tribute will include a caravan of law enforcement vehicles from throughout the county. The caravan will begin at the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Station in Templeton at 9 a.m. and parade down Highway 101, onto Highway 41 to the Atascadero Veterans’ Memorial. The ceremony will include the reading of the names of the officers who have died in the line of duty in California from May 2014 to present. This non-denominational ceremony will be held at the Atascadero Veterans’ Memorial located on Highway 41 near the Atascadero Lake Park. The public is invited to attend.
Law Enforcement Night
On Thursday, May 14, beginning at 6 p.m., the San Luis Obispo City Farmer’s Market will host law enforcement agencies from throughout San Luis Obispo County in displays of emergency and tactical equipment, including police service dogs.
National Police Week
The purpose of National Police Week (May 10 through 16) is to pay tribute to all law enforcement personnel. The San Luis Obispo County Criminal Justice Administrators’ Association invites the public to participate in this year’s National Police Week by attending the local Memorial Service or Law Enforcement Night at the San Luis Obispo Farmer’s Market.
National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day
Nationally, May 15 of each year is designated as National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day. In accordance with the order of Public Law 103-322 signed by former President Bill Clinton on September 13, 1994, City and County governments, as well as churches, businesses, and residents that display the national flag, will be asked to lower the flag to half-staff.
