Philip Ehrke dies at 50

–Philip Cary Ehrke, age 50, of Paso Robles, passed away on May 23, 2017 of heart failure.

Phil (P.C.) was born in San Diego, California and was a life-long Chargers fan. His parents, Kay Kast and Jim Ehrke, moved Phil and his younger brother Scott to Paso Robles in 1984. Phil found employment with the Williams Brothers Grocery Store and then with Vons. While working, he attended Cuesta College with a major in business. After a transfer to the Grover Beach Vons, Phil met his sweetheart, Arlene Kelly Sherman, and they made a life together for 19 years.

Phil’s free time was taken up with amateur radio, computers, competition shooting, baking cookies, and making friends. He was a member of the Paso Robles Amateur Radio Club. Recently Phil’s interest was in computers, technology, and the internet. He shared a love of animals with his mother, Kay, and raised many wonderful pets. He gained a reputation locally and was known as “Fude Dude” by his cats and other pets he befriended.

Phil is survived by his mother and step-father, Kay and Glen Kast of Paso Robles, father Jim Ehrke of Escondido, brother and sister-in-law Scott and Janet Ehrke of Templeton, niece Chloe Ehrke, nephews Mathew Ehrke and Josh Ehrke all of Templeton, and Arlene Kelly Sherman of Templeton.

Phil was laid to rest in Paso Robles at a private family ceremony. Benedict-Rettey Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the North County Woods Humane Society.
