Student arrested, transported to juvenile hall

    – At approximately 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, staff at Liberty High School received a report of a student displaying a knife in the school’s parking lot, according to a press release from the Paso Robles Police Department. The report led school officials to identify two potential students involved. In accordance with school policy, a school resource officer conducted precautionary pat-down searches on both students. One of the students, a 17-year-old male, was found with a folding pocket knife in his possession.

The student was arrested for possession of a weapon on school grounds and transported to San Luis Obispo Juvenile Hall. A threat assessment was completed, and officials determined that there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.

The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District also released information about the incident, noting that a small group of students had confronted one another in the parking lot, raising concerns about a potential physical escalation. The principal helped narrow down the suspects before the school resource officer conducted the search. The 17-year-old male, found with a silver folding pocket knife, cooperated with the investigation before being taken into custody.

The police department stated that the investigation is ongoing. They are requesting anyone with information to call the PRPD at (805) 237-6464. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers’ 24-hour hotline at (805) 529-7867 or text “SLOTIPS” to CRIMES (274637).
