Police arrest suspect after high-speed pursuit through Paso Robles
Driver allegedly reached 120 mph before spike strips ended chase
– Detectives from the Paso Robles Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team arrested a suspect following a vehicle pursuit and assault on an officer on Oct. 29 at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Detectives received an alert from the department’s License Plate Reader system regarding a wanted vehicle in the area. The white BMW, which had been involved in a high-speed pursuit the previous day with the California Highway Patrol’s Templeton Field Office, was located parked in the 3500 block of Park Street.
Detectives identified the driver as 24-year-old Kyle DelgadoYoung, who was wanted for questioning in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries reported in Paso Robles. When detectives attempted to box in the vehicle, DelgadoYoung allegedly rammed a Paso Robles Police Department sergeant’s vehicle and fled the scene.
A pursuit followed as the suspect drove northbound on Highway 101, reaching speeds up to 120 mph and passing vehicles on the right shoulder. The pursuit was terminated due to the suspect’s reckless driving and concern for public safety.
About ten minutes later, dispatch was advised that the California Highway Patrol’s King City Field Office had initiated another pursuit involving the same vehicle. Officers successfully deployed spike strips, disabling the BMW and taking DelgadoYoung into custody.
DelgadoYoung was transported to the Paso Robles Police Department for processing before being booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of felony evading a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle), possession of stolen property, and an outstanding felony warrant.
Police reported that the stolen property recovered from the vehicle has been returned to its rightful owners.
