    slo police department

Victim suffered, ‘major but non-life-threatening injuries’

    – Police arrested Todd Nelson, a 61-year-old Arroyo Grande man last week in connection with a felony hit-and-run that left a 24-year-old San Luis Obispo woman with significant injuries.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:02 p.m. on Dec. 20 near the 50 block of Chorro Street, where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

Patrol officers and the San Luis Obispo Fire Department arrived to find the victim lying near parked vehicles with major but non-life-threatening injuries. The victim stated she had been struck by a passing vehicle, and the driver did not stop. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers identified the make and model of the suspect vehicle and, with assistance from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, located the vehicle in rural Arroyo Grande the following day.

An officer from the Severe Collision Investigation Detail, working with sheriff’s deputies, conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Todd Nelson, was arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on the following charges:

    • Felony hit-and-run causing great bodily injury
    • Driving with a suspended license
    • Misdemeanor hit-and-run involving a parked car

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the SLO police department at (805) 594-8052.
