Police department awarded $30k traffic enforcement grant
–The Paso Robles Police Department was awarded the OTS Traffic Enforcement Grant. The police department will be using the one-year, $30,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to conduct traffic safety operations.
The department’s goal is to “work with the OTS department in order to educate the community in traffic safety and awareness.” The department plans on accomplishing this goal by conducting traffic enforcement, officer training, and increasing public awareness.
The grant period is from Oct. 1, 2019 to Sept. 30, 2020. Grant funding will be used to conduct OTS approved DUI checkpoints, vehicle code enforcement operations, and the purchasing of traffic equipment. In addition, funding will also be used to develop “Hot Sheets” that identify repeat DUI offenders with outstanding warrants.
This grant is aimed at reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol-related collisions, as well as lower DUI recidivism rates.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
