Police find drugs on gas station clerk during tobacco compliance operation
– Detectives from the San Luis Obispo Police Department arrested a local gas station clerk on June 20 following a tobacco compliance operation involving an underage decoy.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., detectives conducted the operation at the Chevron station located in the 12000 block of Los Osos Valley Road. As part of the operation, a person under the age of 21 attempted to buy a tobacco product under the supervision of undercover detectives. The decoy successfully purchased the product without being asked for identification.
Detectives then contacted the clerk, identified as Jacob Burke, 37, of San Luis Obispo. Investigators learned Burke was on pre-trial diversion related to several open criminal cases. During a subsequent search, detectives found a baggie containing suspected methamphetamine and a glass pipe.
Burke was arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail. He faces charges of committing a felony while on bail or release, possession of a controlled substance with prior convictions, sale of a tobacco product to a minor, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
