Police request help in identifying good Samaritan

The Paso Robles Police Department is asking for assistance in identifying a good Samaritan that helped aid in the medical care of an infant who had a seizure on Sunday in Paso Robles.minor decoy

Police reported that on Sunday, March 29 at approximately 8:20 p.m., Paso Robles Police Sergeant Steve Lampe was on patrol in the downtown area when he observed a vehicle blocking the roadway on Pine Street at 12th Street.

He reported that as he investigated this issue, he saw a disturbance on the sidewalk at the northwest corner of the intersection. As he approached this commotion, he determined it was actually a medical emergency, reporting that the occupants of the vehicle had abandoned it in the roadway when they discovered their 18 month old infant son was having a seizure and had stopped breathing while in his car seat. The boy’s parents got out of their vehicle and began rendering aid to the child as they screamed for help, the report said.

Sergeant Lampe immediately summoned medical aid from the Department of Emergency Services and then took control of the child to render aid. It was reported that, as he was rendering aid, a woman ran up and offered to help him.

This good Samaritan, the police say, provided invaluable assistance to Sergeant Lampe until the arrival of emergency services personnel, and through the combined efforts of Sergeant Lampe and this good Samaritan, the child regained consciousness and began breathing on his own.

The child was turned over to medics and transported via ambulance to Twin Cities Community Hospital. As this was occurring, police say that the unidentified good Samaritan walked away before police personnel could get her name.

The PRPD reported that the parents say their son is doing well now, but the parents and the Paso Robles Police Department want to thank this good Samaritan personally for helping Sergeant Lampe during this chaotic and stressful event. While the family desires to remain unidentified, they did authorize the PRPD to publicize this incident so this good Samaritan can be properly recognized.

Anyone with information on the identity of this good Samaritan is encouraged to call the PRPD at (805) 237-6464.
