Police seize fentanyl, arrest two men during Morro Bay traffic stop

Officers locate more than five ounces of fentanyl during vehicle search

    – Police arrested two men on March 6 after officers located fentanyl, methamphetamine, and evidence of drug sales during a traffic stop in Morro Bay.

At approximately 12 p.m., a Morro Bay Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a 2002 Dodge Dakota in the 700 block of Quintana Road for a moving violation. When the officer contacted the driver, identified as Carmelo Colaccino, 32, of Paso Robles, the officer observed several items inside the driver’s compartment that could be used as weapons, including a large knife.

For officer safety, Colaccino was asked to step out of the vehicle. The passenger, Lucas Isaac Hay, 29, of San Luis Obispo, was also asked to exit the vehicle.

During a consent search of the driver for weapons, officers located and seized suspected fentanyl. Officers then searched the vehicle and located more than 5 ounces of fentanyl, 0.15 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and evidence indicative of drug sales.

Colaccino was arrested and booked into the San Luis County Jail on recommended charges of felony possession of a controlled substance for sales, felony transportation of a controlled substance, felony possession of narcotics with priors, possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a concealed knife.

Hay was found to be in possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Police said Hay also had four outstanding warrants for drug possession, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and theft.

Hay was booked into the San Luis County Jail on recommended charges of possession of narcotics with priors, possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, and aiding and abetting a felony crime.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Morro Bay Police Department at (805) 772-6225 or San Luis Obispo County Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-7867. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
