    Back to School banner

–The Paso Robles Police Department will be starting off the school year with maximum traffic enforcement and awareness efforts within city school zones. Beginning Thursday, Aug. 20, motorists are reminded to use additional caution when driving in or near school zones within the city of Paso Robles.school mornings

The new school year brings traffic congestion in school zones and surrounding areas. Parents are encouraged to teach their children to cross roadways at a corner, preferably at crossing guard locations, not mid-block or from between parked vehicles. Police officers will be deployed throughout the city’s school zones to help ensure student safety and reduce traffic congestion.

The police will strictly enforce school zone related traffic violations such as: seat belt violations, cell phone use, flashing school bus light violations, speed violations and parking violations. Officers will also be monitoring pedestrian and bicycle traffic for violations. Enforcement efforts are designed to remind motorists that school is back in session and traffic safety is a priority. Depending upon the severity of the traffic violation, officers may issue warnings or citations.

Something should be done about the drivers who do not stop for pedestrians all around town, not just in the school zones. I walk almost daily and I have cars not stopping or going around me even when I am in the cross walk. When a driver doesn't see me I understand, but often they look right at me and continue on their way. Sometimes a whole string of traffic just goes right on by and when the person who is obeying the rules stops for me, I hold my breath that they will not be rear-ended.
