Update: Pond Fire at 95-percent containment, evacuation warnings lifted 

Update posted Aug. 7: 

–The Pond Fire remains at 95-percent containment as firefighters continue mop-up and patrol operations, according to Cal Fire. All evacuation warnings have been lifted. The estimated size of the blaze remains at 1,962 acres.

 

Update posted Aug. 6:

–The Pond Fire burning near Santa Margarita is now at 95-percent containment as of Thursday morning at 6 a.m. The fire is expected to be fully contained by Aug. 8. Mop-up operations and suppression repair will continue throughout the rest of the week, according to Cal Fire.

“Increased humidities have kept fire behavior minimal over the last few days,” according to a report from Cal Fire. “Firefighters will continue suppression repair, backhaul all trash and search for hot spots. Weather today remains favorable. Threat to homes and KV lines has been mitigated.”

To date, one first responder was injured, one structure destroyed, another structure damaged, and a confirmed 1,962 acres burned. Evacuation warnings have been lifted.

Cal Fire currently has deployed 21 fire engines, 13 water tenders, four hand crews, three dozers, and 228 personnel.

Cooperating agencies included: SLO City Fire, US Forest Service, SLO County Sheriff, Five Cities Fire Department, Morro Bay Fire Department, PG&E, SLO Horse Emergency Evacuation Team, California Department of Corrections crews, California Conservation Corps, CAL Office of Emergency Services, and the Big Bear Fire Dept.

Update posted Aug. 4:

–As of Tuesday at 7 a.m., the Pond Fire burning near Santa Margarita is 78-percent contained and the estimated acreage remains at 2,005. Cal Fire clarified that one residential structure was destroyed, and one residential structure damaged.

An evacuation warning is still in effect from Huer Huero Rd. from Random Canyon south to Park Hill Rd. and Park Hill Rd. at Huer Huero Rd. East to Earthstar Pl.

Pond Fire burning near Santa Margarita destroys 2 structures, burns over 2,000 acres

–Some evacuation orders are still in effect for the Pond Fire burning near Santa Margarita. The fire is currently at 60-percent containment as of Monday morning.

The fire was first reported around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday evening and is located near the 3400 block of Katacreek Road near Oak Creek Place.

So far two structures have been destroyed and 2,005 acres have burned. Some 200 structures are threatened.
