PRAAGS is pleased State Senate approved AB 2453

PRAAGSAug. 13, 2014 – The Paso Robles Agricultural Alliance for Groundwater Solutions is pleased that today the State Senate overwhelmingly voted to approve AB 2453 which allows the creation of a hybrid board of directors for the proposed Paso Robles Water District. By a vote of 29 to 3, the Senate sent a clear message that this type of governance makes sense for Paso Robles. “Our State officials recognize the unique structure which allows all landowners and registered voters in the Basin to have a say in how our groundwater in the North County is to be managed;” said Jerry Reaugh, Chairman of PRAAGS. He said; “We now urge our Supervisors to take the lead in getting the district in place.Clearly momentum is building as we all come to realize that doing nothing is no longer an option.”

“There is a tremendous amount of work that has to be done to get this into the LAFCo review process,” said Dana Merrill, PRAAGS Vice-Chairman. He added, “We are hoping that the newly formed Basin Advisory Committee will be tasked by the County to do a lot of this work.”

Reaugh said, “In the months ahead, PRAAGS will continue to play a vital role in the district formation process. PRAAGS will be the voice for the County’s vineyard and winery owners, ranchers and farmers both big and small. Agriculture must be fairly represented when it comes to how our groundwater is to be managed.”
