Prescribed burn planned at Hearst San Simeon, Morro Bay State Parks

    prescribed burn SLO county

–There is a planned prescribed burn scheduled at Morro Bay State Park happening between Wednesday, May 20, and Friday, May 29. Ignitions may start as early as 7 a.m. with fires out by approximately 7 p.m.

Burn piles in Morro Bay State Park are located along the Wildland-Urban Interface near Balboa St. and La Loma St. Burn piles in Hearst San Simeon State Park are located near the Washburn Campground loop.

The intent is to reduce fuel loads associated with pine pitch canker, drought, and bug kill in tree mortality areas, to increase forest health and enhance forest resiliency, and aid in native plant restoration. Fuel reduction will also decrease the threat of wildfires near local communities.

This is an effort by California State Parks, in cooperation with the Air Pollution Control District, the Morro Bay Fire Department, and CalFire.
