Prescribed burn planned in San Simeon

–A prescribed fire will be applied to approximately 120 acres of grassland at the intersection of Highway 1 and San Simeon Creek Rd. in San Simeon. If conditions are not favorable for broadcast burning, brush piles may be burned near the adjacent Washburn campground.

The burn will occur on tuesday, Feb. 13, approximately 9 a.m. through 4 p.m.In Hearst San Simeon State Park. The plot is bound to the east by Van Gordon Cr. Rd., to the west by Highway 1, and to the south by San Simeon Creek Rd. Brush piles are located along the road between the lower and upper campgrounds at Hearst San Simeon State Park.

Prescribed fire is being used to manage vegetation. Rotational burning will introduce a natural disturbance to the ecosystem, reduce annual weed infestations, and encourage spring wildflowers and perennial native grasses.

CA State Parks, in cooperation with CALFIRE and the Air Pollution Control District. For more information please call Dan Falat, District Superintendent, San Luis Obispo Coast District, (805) 927-2065.
