Prescribed burning planned on North Coast this month
Actual burn days will occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and will be determined by weather and permit conditions
– Prescribed burning of brush piles is scheduled to take place at Estero Bluffs State Park in Cayucos from Tuesday, Jan. 7, through Friday, Jan. 31. Actual burn days will occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and will be determined by weather and permit conditions.
Ignitions may begin as early as 7 a.m., with fire activity expected to conclude by approximately 5 p.m. The burn site includes about 10 brush piles and surrounding slash at San Geronimo Creek.
The purpose of the prescribed burn is to reduce fuel loads, mitigate fire hazards, enhance the health of native plant communities, and aid in controlling non-native, weedy species.
The project is being conducted by California State Parks in cooperation with CAL FIRE and the Air Pollution Control District.
