Prescribed burns planned at Montaña de Oro State Park
Burns scheduled Mondays through Wednesdays, weather permitting
– California State Parks plans prescribed burning of brush piles at Montaña de Oro State Park from April 6 through May 1.
Crews will conduct burns on Mondays through Wednesdays, with specific burn days determined by weather and permit conditions. Ignitions may begin as early as 7 a.m., and crews expect to curtail fire activity by about 5 p.m. Personnel will remain on site during active fire operations.
Crews will burn approximately 100 brush piles along Bloody Nose Trail on the east side of Pecho Valley Road within the park.
Officials said the burns will reduce fuel loads and fire hazards, enhance the health of native plant communities, and help control non-native weedy species.
California State Parks will conduct the work in cooperation with Cal Fire and the Air Pollution Control District.
The California Department of Parks and Recreation, known as State Parks, manages the park system and supports programs through the Office of Historic Preservation and its divisions of Boating and Waterways and Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation. The department provides recreation opportunities and works to preserve natural and cultural resources across the state.
