Prescribed fire set for next week east of Santa Margarita
Burn to cover 25 acres in effort to manage vegetation
– Fire officials plan to conduct a prescribed burn on approximately 25 acres of private land near Santa Margarita on May 20 as part of a vegetation management effort.
Cal Fire San Luis Obispo Unit and the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department will carry out the burn in cooperation with private landowners, the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, and the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council.
The burn is scheduled to begin around 10 a.m. Tuesday on land located about 20 minutes east of Santa Margarita, near the intersection of Seven Oaks Way between Las Pilitas Road and Parkhill Road.
The prescribed fire is part of Cal Fire’s Vegetation Management Program. Officials said the goal is to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires and to promote ecological resilience and diversity in the area.
