PRYAF announces upcoming registration, new classes & teacher

–Paso Robles Youth Arts Foundation has announced that winter quarter registration day will be on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. All local students are welcome to enroll for free after school classes. Registration information and a complete list of winter quarter classes can be found at: http://www.pryaf.org/classes/.PRYAF

There are over 960 class seats to be filled this quarter by students 5-18 years old. In addition to guitar, piano, band, voice, hip hop, ballet, art, drama, theater, film and editing, new classes include; creative writing, creative dance conditioning, video production filming and editing, show choir, music theory, audio recording, group collaborative art, video and song writing.

PRYAF will welcome Sean Boling who will teach the first Creative Writing class at PRYAF for 12-18 year olds. Boling is an English teacher at Cuesta College and a literary novelist.

Boling’s greatest joy of writing is, “To think that I may be able to elicit a laugh or any sort of emotional reaction from someone I’ve never met, or perhaps contribute something to the conversation they’ve had with themselves or with friends on what it means to be alive, that’s pretty exciting.I’ve witnessed the wonderful effect that joining PRYAF has had on my daughter since she started taking classes there last year, so I jumped at the chance to experience some of that magic as well. I’m honored to be part of such a positive legacy in our community.”

Many of PRYAF’s staff of administrators and instructors are professional artists themselves, who provide instruction and mentorship in a wide variety of classes.

“We also have state-of-the-art instruments and equipment, and a fantastic facility that provides a safe and clean learning environment,” says Mindy Sisemore, PRYAF executive director. “All of this is provided at absolutely no cost to the children, or their parents. It costs a lot of money to do what we do, and we receive no government funding. As such, we rely entirely on donations, public and private funding, and support from the community through sponsorships and end-of-year contributions.”

The public can show support by sponsoring a PRYAF student. Visit www.PRYAF.org and click the ‘Donate’ button to make a credit card donation through PayPal’s trusted, secure website. A donation of $250 sponsors one child for a year.

PRYAF has been serving the local community for over 15 years, and during that time has provided art instruction to hundreds of students in the North County. When recent statewide budget cuts forced local schools to reduce or altogether eliminate their arts programs, PRYAF increased the number of classes they offered in order to help fill the void.

“It’s amazing to me that as I run into people around town, even long-time area residents are still getting to know that PRYAF exists and what a wonderful resource it is to the community,”says Emily Jagger, development director. “They are beginning to learn about us and want to know how they can get involved and what they can do to help. Throughout the years, PRYAF has been a home for the Arts and for students and in return the community has really embraced us and allowed us to be successful. We are so excited for what the next 15 years will bring!”
