Officers were in pursuit of stolen motorcycle, U-Haul trailer

– On Friday at approximately 1 p.m., an off-duty California Highway Patrol San Luis Obispo sergeant was driving in the Los Osos area and observed a possible auto theft in progress. Two males reportedly appeared to be attempting to steal a U-Haul truck. A motorcycle was also in the direct vicinity of the U-haul truck. The sergeant called CHP dispatch to report the possible crime in progress.

The suspects began to drive away from the area. One suspect was driving the U-haul truck and the other was riding the associated motorcycle. The sergeant followed the suspects and continued to notify CHP dispatch. The suspects traveled onto South Bay Blvd. northbound from Los Osos Valley Rd. when they noticed they were being followed. The U-haul truck driver pulled over to the shoulder of South Bay Blvd. The suspect on the motorcycle continued northbound. Morro Bay Police officers and San Luis Obispo Sheriff deputies responded to assist the off-duty sergeant and took the driver of the U-Haul into custody. Additional Morro Bay Police officers responded to the area and located the motorcycle. They attempted to initiate an enforcement stop and a pursuit ensued.

The suspect continued onto Highway 1 southbound towards San Luis Obispo. CHP Officers responded to the area and took over the pursuit near the California Men’s Colony. The suspect initiated a U-turn and began to flee northbound on Highway 1 towards Morro Bay. The motorcyclists fled northbound reaching Morro Bay City limits.

Eventually, the suspect fled onto Highway-41 northbound into the City of Atascadero. The suspect drove through multiple residential neighborhoods and eventually onto private property where he stopped his motorcycle and turned himself in to the pursuing CHP units. Two suspects were taken into custody. The motorcycle was confirmed to be stolen and the U-haul truck is pending further investigation, along with additional criminal activity that was discovered, according to authorities.
