Reasons To Ditch Your Contacts For Glasses In 2021

In high school, I used to dream of the day I could get rid of my geeky glasses. I hated how they looked on me and the limitations they placed on me. I couldn’t play sports without worrying they would break, nor could I see properly when I swam.

Contact lenses were therefore a godsend. I wore them almost every day for the next decade! However, I’m finally coming to terms with the fact that glasses are better in so many ways.

Here are some reasons to finally ditch your contacts for glasses in 2021.

You’re home more often

My glasses really started to grow on me during lockdown. Wearing contacts just seemed like too much of a mission if I wasn’t going to even leave the house. I wore glasses daily and almost forgot my contacts existed. When I did finally try putting in my contacts again, it struck me just how uncomfortable they were.

Since we’re all stuck at home, and even after the pandemic are likely to do things virtually far more than we did in the past, glasses make much more sense. You can look great while not worrying about dry eyes at all.

Instead of spending money on contact lenses you rarely need to use, use the spare cash to buy a beautiful pair of glasses.

You can buy online

Buying glasses online has been out of reach for most people, even as everything else became available. We were told that we had to go for regular eye-tests to get a new pair of glasses, even once our eyes had stopped changing. Now, that’s no longer a problem.

It is now simple to buy glasses online. As long as you know your prescription, you can order lenses to fit just about any frame. Some websites even allow you to virtually try on a new pair of frames.

With shipping now cheap and quick, returns are easy too. Go have a look at www.top10.com/online-glasses/reviews/zenni to see one of the easiest options for buying glasses online.

They suit your every need

Another reason that glasses beat contact lenses in 2021 is that they are so much more versatile today. You can get progressive multifocal lenses that make it easy to switch from distance vision to middle vision to reading without even noticing the transition. You can get progressive contact lenses, but they are more expensive and not as smooth.

You may also want to get transition lenses that darken in the sun. This way, you’re never squinting when you walk out into bright light.

The ultimate fashion accessory

My main reason for wearing glasses is definitely that they are the ultimate fashion accessory. They add character to your face and can be the item that draws together your entire outfit.

This used to be a luxury reserved for the wealthy, as attractive pairs of glasses were expensive and range was limited (hence the geeky glasses I wore in school). Today, you can get a wide range of prescription glasses at cheap prices. You’re not limited to one pair that you have to wear over and over again.

For those people who don’t like the way transition lenses look, you can get a pair of prescription sunglasses. As mentioned before, you can get all your looks online as long as you know your prescription.

There are sports options

In school, playing sports with glasses on was a nightmare. There was always the risk that they would fall off and get trampled on, or that someone would accidentally break them on contact. There’s also the pesky fact that they mist up when your face gets heated (or you wear a mask) and can get blurry with sweat.

Sports glasses are now an option. While they will never be as good as not having to wear eyewear during sports at all, they provide a good alternative to contact lenses which can get itchy or fall out.

You need glasses anyway

Finally, the fact is that you need glasses even if you have contacts, whereas the opposite is not true. There are contact wearers who don’t own glasses anymore. This is not good for you. Your eyes need a break from contact lenses every day, and you are at risk of infection if you leave them in too long.

You might as well put some effort into getting a pair that looks great and that you’ll want to wear when you go out.

I love my glasses, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to contacts. Sure, I’ll use them when glasses don’t suit the occasion, but I’d rather work on building my ever growing glasses collection.
