Recreation department offering new Summer classes

New classes offered for kids, teens and adults

–This summer, Paso Robles Recreation Services Division is offering over twenty-five new classes or camps for children, teens and adults.

Two new additions to the camp lineup for local children this summer include Good Dog Kid’s Kamp presented by local animal expert and dog trainer Kathy Kropp. During this four-day camp kids will learn about animals and work with special guests including local veterinarians, groomers and wildlife experts. Special appearances by miniature horses and even a penguin are expected.

Magic Camp with Gerald Joseph will invite kids and teens behind the scenes to find out the secrets to some of Joseph’s most popular illusions. The San Francisco magician has been a favorite performer during the Paso Robles City Library’s summer reading program for years, and this is the first time he’ll be offering a camp.

New classes for children this summer include Paper Crafts for Kids taught by local author and artist Beryl Reichenberg and Young Actors Studio acting classes by theater director and storyteller Kirk Henning.

For those ten and older, local artist Skye Ravy will offer six Acrylic Painting For Beginners classes for ages ten to adult. These very popular classes in a relaxed environment will feature a different painting each session with no previous art experience required. Jewelry making classes Earrings 101 as well as a Create a Sea Glass and Driftwood Mobile while learning the art of wire wrapping will be offered for participants twelve and older by Bohdi Hodges, owner of Cambria Beads. Participants will learn to craft beautiful take-home treasures during these classes that require no previous experience.

For those ten and older, local artist Skye Ravy will offer six Acrylic Painting For Beginners classes for ages ten to adult.

Chef Bruce Finch joins the Paso Robles Recreation team this summer to offer five different demonstration cooking classes with Party for Your Palate Cooking Classes for those sixteen and older. Participants are encouraged to bring their appetite and come ready to learn and indulge as chef Bruce prepares several dishes and explains how to make them yourself. Classes include The BBQ Class, The Appetizer Class, Super Salads, International Street Food and Farm to Fork.

A new Line Dancing class on Tuesday evenings at Centennial Park is open to everyone from beginner to expert. Instructor Reon Monson includes all genres of music from hip hop to ballroom, funk and top 40 in addition to some country favorites as well.

Community members who are interested in supplementing their income or tired of punching a time clock may consider learning how to open a successful eBay store this summer with eBay 101: Selling on eBay. Instructor Bret Harrison who runs an eBay store that takes the place of a working income in his household, will lead participants step by step through the process.

Teachers and those employed in all areas of business will benefit from two Google platform classes being offered by teacher Patricia Judd. Those twelve and older can learn the ins and outs of Google Forms and Google Docs during Judd’s summer classes Google Forms: Not Just for surveys Anymore! and Rocking ‘Round the Docs.

With over fifty years of experience as a hypnotherapist, Harvey Hunt will offer three summer sessions called Improving Yourself with Hypnosis. Participants will have the opportunity to glimpse the power of the mind during these three day classes which offer a chance to learn about dealing with stress in a completely different way. The classes are also recommended for those working in the medical profession, sales, business, marketing and management positions. Hunt will offer three free introductory classes for those interested in learning more on May 25, June 21 and July 25.

Instructor Catherine June Schneider, M ed. will lead participants through a four-hour training during the nationally recognized Refuse to be a Victim classes to help improve knowledge of personal, home, auto and travel security.

Following her 500-mile trek along the Camino de Santiago in Spain, Mary Uebersax a holistic practitioner of yoga, pilates and massage therapy and co-owner of EarthTones Healing Arts Center in Paso Robles will present a multi-generational class called Open Spaces – Open Mind “Peditation.” Designed for all ages and walking abilities (moms with strollers are welcome) Uebersax will focus on calming the mind and centering the body while exploring the beautiful open spaces and walking paths in Paso Robles.

Dr. Gwen Pillow will lead participants on a wellness adventure this summer during her class Transform Your Life With a 21 Day Cleanse. With instruction about nutrition, digestion and thyroid health, Dr. Pillow will help participants purify, nourish and balance their body.

Looking for a great way to work-out during your lunch break? Instructor Doris Lance has joined the recreation team this summer with a weekly one-hour Sport Yoga class on Thursdays from noon to 1:00 pm. This offering is designed specifically for busy individuals and athletes who want to improved their strength, flexibility and endurance through yoga postures that challenge all muscle groups of the body.

Two new photography classes are being offered this summer including Beach Shooting With Dean Crawford, Jr. and an On Location Digital Portrait Photography class with Brent Paul. Both classes provide participants the opportunity to learn on location from professional photographers with many years of experience and recognition in their field.
