–There is still time to register for hundreds of classes available at Cuesta College for the Fall 2018 semester. Courses are offered on the San Luis Obispo (SLO) Campus, the North County Campus in Paso Robles, the South County Center in Arroyo Grande, and online. The Fall semester begins Aug. 13 and runs through Dec. 14.

Students can now register for courses in the areas of agriculture, architecture, biology, business, computer information systems, English, engineering, film television and electronic media, graphic design, mathematics, welding, and more.

Beginning in Fall 2018, students will have the opportunity to pursue various new certificates and courses. They include:

  • Introduction to Viticulture course (AGPS 250). As part of the college’s Agriculture Plant Science Program, this CSU-transferable course introduces viticulture to students via exploring the concepts of grape growing, history, distribution, biology, anatomy, propagation, cultivated varieties, rootstocks, climate, vineyard practices, common diseases and pests. The college offers transfer degrees in both Agriculture Business and Agriculture Plant Science.
  • Culinary Arts Certificate of Specialization. This new Career Technical Education program will combine academic and lab training with real-life experience in the field of culinary arts. Taught in a professional kitchen at the California Conservation Corps in San Luis Obispo, the certificate consists of four courses that can be completed within one semester (NUTR 213, CUL 210, CUL 220, and CUL 125). Students will learn knife skills and hands-on preparation of stocks, sauces, soups, legumes, meats, grains, vegetables, fruits, breads, pastries, and breakfast cookery, including allergen-free and plant-based models.
  • Introduction to Geographic Information System course (GEOL 225). This Fall, Cuesta is working to meet the high-demand industry needs for certified Geographic Information System (GIS) technicians. The CSU-transferable course introduces the concepts, techniques, and tools of GIS, including data acquisition, management, manipulation, spatial analysis, and cartographic output. The course is the first in a series that will result in a GIS Analysis Certificate, which will officially launch in the Fall of 2019.

Also new this Fall is the expansion of the Cuesta College Promise Scholarship to include a second year of fee- free education. All SLO County high school seniors graduating this year will be the first class eligible to obtain two full years of fee-free education at Cuesta College. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is Aug. 1. More information is available in this press release or by contacting the Promise Hotline at (805) 546-3153. Additionally, various forms of Federal and State financial aid opportunities are currently still available to students via the college’s Financial Aid Department.

For students who may not be able to commit to a full semester, late-start courses provide an additional option. Typically beginning in September and October, these courses run between 17 and three weeks in length and include topics such as astronomy, computer information systems, English, kinesiology, psychology, and more.

Prospective Student Workshops are being held over the coming weeks on both the SLO and North County campuses, Cuesta College representatives will be on hand to answer questions about the college and help with the registration process.
