Ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate completion of new playground

Community invited to a milk and cookie toast and play-date

– Members of the community are invited to a ribbon-cutting celebration at Barney Schwartz Park on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. to officially open a new playground area that has recently been completed. This colorful play space encourages high-energy activities with climbing areas, log tunnels, spinners, swings and slides designed for children ages two to 12-years-old.

Mayor Steve Martin and Julie Dahlen, Director of Community Services for the City of Paso Robles are expected to speak at the celebration. A milk and chocolate chip cookie toast and ribbon cutting are planned along with giveaways for all children in attendance.

“This beautiful new play area will provide countless hours of outdoor entertainment for the youngest members of our community,” commented Julie Dahlen. “We are grateful for the support of the Paso Robles REC Foundation and the Dale Schwartz Memorial Endowment, enabling the City to fund enhancements like these at Barney Schwartz Park.”

The play zone was installed by R.E. Schultz Construction, Inc. from Orange, CA. Freda Berman, Maintenance Services Superintendent and Project/Events Manager for the City of Paso Robles, oversaw the six-month project.

The replacement cost for the fifteen-year-old playground which suffered from worn play features and weather related deterioration was $250,000. Funding for the playground was made entirely possible through the Dale Schwartz Memorial Endowment Fund for Barney Schwarz Park. The fund, managed by the Paso Robles REC Foundation has also provided shade structures, a barbeque pavilion, trail mile markers, lighting maintenance and parking lot paving at Barney Schwartz Park.

Barney Schwartz Park is a 40-acre recreation area that was dedicated in 2002. In addition to the new lower play area, the park also features an upper playground, a one million gallon lake bordered by two pavilions, walking trails, several group picnic areas, soccer and softball fields and concession stands.
