Riley Shannon crowned Miss Mid-State Fair 2015

– Cal Poly student Riley Shannon was named Miss California Mid-State Fair 2015 at the pageant held on Tuesday. The first runner up was Kaitlin Heely, and the second runner up was Karina Medrano. The contestants competed in five areas: interview, platform, talent, swimsuit, and evening wear. The winner of the Miss California Mid-State Fair title will receive a $500 scholarship. The entire court will participate in judging and opening events, sign autographs and generally represent the best aspects of the Mid-State Fair.

Riley Shannon is 18-years-old and is a sophomore at Cal Poly. Her hobbies are listed as: hiking, swimming, traveling, public speaking, community service and raising livestock. The organizations that she belongs to are: Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution, Collegiate FFA of Cal Poly, Cal Poly Club Swim Team, and Philanthropy Committee. Her achievements include a FFA State degree, FFA public speaking creed state finalist, FFA Public Speaking Marketing Plan state finalist. Riley’s platform is titled “Bushels of Fun – Agriculture Education for Children Affected by Domestic Violence.”

Kaitlin Heely is 22-years-old. She is a resident of Paso Robles and attends Fresno State University. Her hobbies are listed as: cooking, exercising, horseback riding, traveling, hunting, and beach volleyball. She is a member of Fresno State Young Cattlemen’s Association, Fresno State Beef Show Team, and Fit By Sacrifice fitness team. Some of her achievements include: Captain of SBCC Track Team, Hunter Safety Course Certification, CPR Certification, and FFA Greenhand Degree. Her platform title is “Farmers Feed Your Soul”.

Karina Medrano is 18-years-old and a sophomore at Cuesta College. Her hobbies are listed as: hiking, running, beach volleyball, basketball, reading and volunteering in the community. Her organizations that she is involved with are SLO Crusades, Monterey County Farm Bureau, California Women for Agriculture, and Associated Students of Cuesta College. Her achievements are Miss Monterey County Fair 2014, Cuesta College Ambassador, and Cuesta College Activities Director. Karina’s platform is titled “FFA: Planting Seeds for Future Leaders.”
