Royal Attractions to See in the United Kingdom

The whole area of the United Kingdom has always been one of the top holiday destinations, and for good reasons! With expansive natural grounds, wealthy cities, and historical sites, the UK easily earned the name of must-see.

So, if you are planning your holiday and need more inspiration on places to go, we suggest playing the royal angle! There are numerous royal attractions and sites that are accessible to tourists, so why not explore these more? Check out our top suggestions!

Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow

If you are already in Scotland, make your way to Buchanan and Queen Streets and visit one of the most popular sites here, Royal in architecture, background, and name. The Royal Exchange Square is undoubtedly one to explore, so let’s see what you should know!

The square is a public visitation center and a famous Scottish landmark. Primarily a meeting place, the area is home to several significant and wealthy establishments, such as the Royal of Scotland or the bronze equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington of the 19th century.

Given its wide variety of things to visit, Royal Exchange Square is supposed to take you more than thirty minutes of an itinerary. Make sure you have the time to really walk around it, enjoy the architecture, and buy some souvenirs!

Windsor Castle, London

After a riveting time at the Royal Exchange Square, take the Glasgow to London train, and prepare to spend some time royally surprised at the English culture and lavishness!

Home to royalty and over ten centuries of history, Windsor Castle is the oldest occupied palace in the world and embodies a millennium of English culture, architecture, and traditions. Mainly known for its association with the British Royal family, the castle is open to visitors all summer long, so you can thoroughly explore it.

See the 19th-century royal apartments, statues, carvings, and paintings, all making it one of the most impressive British displays of Georgian and Victorian designs with a hint of Gothic.

Edinburgh Castle, Edingburgh

Undoubtedly the most famous monument and tourist attraction in Scotland, Edinburgh Castle remains a must-see during your trip around the UK.

Since the palace has served many purposes, there are many different ways to perceive it! It is clearly a long-standing royal residence, but you will also catch glimpses of other significant periods, such as it being a military garrison, a prison, and a fortress!

Probably the most compelling attraction here is the Honours of Scotland – royal regalia available for inspection to every tourist. We also highly suggest visiting the two museums on-site! Both the Scottish National War Memorial and the National War Museum of Scotland are worth a visit.

Rock of Cashel, Cashel

Also known as the Cashel of the Kings, the castle settled in County Tipperary, Ireland, is one of the most impressive royal palaces in the UK. For a quick and comfortable trip to County Tipperary, we suggest using the trains in Ireland – a speedy journey guaranteed.

The Rock of Cashel was initially built as a royal seat of the kings of Munster, so we are talking hundreds of years prior to the Norman Invasion, which would put the castle in an impressive age category. Naturally, with sites as old as these, many things have changed, and while you can still see rooms and pieces dating back to the 12th or the 13th centuries, most of the present-day views are from the 70s.

Apart from medieval architecture and Celtic art pieces, you can also enjoy legends surrounding the Rock of Cashel. The main one being that its construction began when St. Patrick banished Satan from a cave, once Satan bit into the rock and spit it out. That rock? Somehow it turned into the Cashel of the Kings!

Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire

Lastly, let’s take one last look at Scotland. This time, we are visiting one of the loveliest and most charming castles in the UK!

Balmoral Castle is initially known as the summer residence of the British Royal family and has actually been around since the reign of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. However, it was once a simple home that became this royal and magnificent over the years.

Visit Balmoral to get an insight into the noble life, English and Scottish traditions, and even some historical spaces and artifacts. We suggest guided tours or at least an audio guide for the best experience while walking around the gardens, apartment rooms, and art exhibitions. So, have fun and feel a little royal for the day!

See these five stunners on your UK trip, and learn everything you can on the European royal traditions, historical and architectural elements, and everyday noble life. Just make sure to check the opening time before making any plans – some of these are only open at certain months of the year. Best of luck, and have fun!
