SafetyFest returns to Paso Robles City Park June 6
Event will feature hands-on emergency preparedness activities
– The fifth annual SafetyFest community emergency and safety event will return to Paso Robles Downtown City Park on June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will feature emergency preparedness education, safety training, demonstrations, and hands-on activities with first responders and safety professionals from across the region.
Organizers said this year’s event will include information and training related to wildfire preparedness, earthquake and flood awareness, crime prevention, motor vehicle safety, cybersecurity, mental and physical health resources, and personal safety.
“SafetyFest is a fun, engaging way to bring our community together to learn and participate,” said Ross Porter, fire captain and paramedic with Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services. “Each year we expand the scope of our public education opportunities to help residents better prepare for emergencies and disasters, ultimately making our community safer.”
“As a community, we’re at our strongest when everyone knows how to respond to emergencies and disasters,” said Gina Grieb, executive director of San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team and co-founder of PASOSafe. “SafetyFest gives families, businesses, and organizations a chance to gain real-world skills from the safety professionals and first responders who keep our region safe. We’re excited to welcome new partners and offer even more hands-on training activities this year.”
The event supports the Paso Robles Community Emergency Response Team, a program sponsored by Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services and operated through the San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team. Volunteers receive training in disaster preparedness and emergency response skills.
“This event allows Paso Robles CERT to strengthen our volunteer base and expand training for the public,” said John Spooner, operations director of San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team. “In addition to our 20-hour CERT Basic courses, we are adding pet preparedness and specialty disaster-response training. With wildfire impacts increasing statewide, building more trained community responders is essential. That means more equipment, more certified instructors, and more accessible classes.”
Organizers said safety-related organizations and businesses may apply for exhibit space at the event. Bilingual exhibitors are encouraged to participate.
