Voters in the 24th Congressional District, which includes Paso Robles, elected Salud Carbajal, a Santa Barbara Democrat, to succeed Congresswoman Lois Capps to represent them in Washington, DC.

Carbajal earned 114,270 votes, 54-percent, to beat Republican Justin Fareed, who earned 98,214 votes, or 46-percent.

Salud Carbajal released the following statement upon being named Congressman-elect:

“I am honored to have earned the support tonight of voters throughout the 24th Congressional District. You have put your faith in me tonight and I promise that I will work tirelessly on your behalf to improve the quality of life for Central Coast residents.

“It is a privilege to live in a country where a young immigrant from Mexico, and the son of a farmworker, is afforded the opportunity to serve his community in the halls of Congress. My family instilled in me early on the value of hard work and dedication to the job at hand. This is the approach I’ve taken to serving my constituents in local government and it will remain my practice while representing the 24th District in Congress.

“I want to first thank my family, and especially my wife, for their incredible support during this long journey. I could not have done this without their strength and encouragement.

“Thank you also to my incredible team, our volunteers, and our supporters. Their dedication to our campaign gave me the energy these past few months to finish this election strong. I know that their enthusiasm was felt throughout the District.

“Most of all, thank you to the thousands of voters that have supported me in this election. It is an awesome responsibility to represent this vibrant and unique community in Congress, and I am honored that you have all given me that opportunity tonight.”
