San Luis Obispo County is at risk of losing metro area designation

SLO County Map

–San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles is at risk of losing its status as a Metropolitan Statistical Area, or MSA, and REACH invites the public to join the Central Coast business group in voicing opposition to the change.

Under a new federal proposal, SLO-Paso would be downgraded to a Micropolitan Area as the population threshold for a Metropolitan area is raised from 50,000 to 100,000. Implications could be wide-ranging, from federal funding for infrastructure, transportation and community development block grants to wider economic development efforts.

“As we collectively work on the economic recovery, it is particularly important to nurture economic growth policies for businesses, families and communities like ours,” REACH wrote in a letter opposing the change to the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.
