– The San Luis Obispo Heart & Stroke Walk will return Sat., Sept. 10, at the Avila Beach Promenade and the Bob Jones Trail. The 5K walk/run encourages healthy habits while raising funds to support the American Heart Association, or AHA, in its research and education efforts to fight heart disease.

Registration and health fair festivities begin at 9 a.m. Participants that raise $100 or more are eligible to receive an official 2016 Heart Walk t-shirt.

Registration for the 5k walk is free. There will also be a Stroke Miracle 1- mile route option for participants. Before the walking begins, participants are encouraged to explore the expo areas, which include opening ceremonies, kid zones, educational booths and heart-healthy food.

Cardiovascular and stroke diseases are the number one killers of both men and women in the U.S. They kill about 2,200 Americans each day – one every 40 seconds, according to the AHA.
