San Luis Obispo man arrested for kidnapping and battery

Evan Woods

Evan Woods

On Friday at 7 p.m., the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a 911 call from a 43-year-old female resident reporting her friend was being assaulted by an unknown male on the sidewalk in the 11300 block of Los Osos Valley Road.

The female victim, a 30-year-old San Luis Obispo resident, did not suffer any serious injuries as a result of the attack.

Further investigation in this case revealed the victim was grabbed by Evan Woods, 40, of San Luis Obispo, who attempted to subdue her and drag her into a nearby apartment, police say.

The victim’s friend was able to quickly call 911 while yelling at Woods that the police were on the way. Those actions along with the victim fighting back caused Woods to abandon his assault and flee into a nearby apartment.

On Monday, police investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Woods. Shortly after 2 p.m. detectives believed Woods was at his residence and the arrest warrant was served. Woods was taken into custody for 207 PC – Kidnapping, 242 PC – Battery and 236 PC – False Imprisonment.

Woods will be booked into custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $104,000.

Police say this was an isolated incident and there is no evidence to suggest Woods is involved in other similar crimes.

Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to call the San Luis Obispo Police Department at (805) 781-7312 or Crime Stoppers at 805-549-STOP.
